The Lighthouse of Salou
The Lighthouse of Salou is one of the most visited places of interest in our town for its impressive features. A breath of sea breeze envelops you when you walk the Coastal Path, about 300 meters, which surrounds the Lighthouse of Salou. This route that includes this tourist site allows the visitor to practically water and enjoy a natural environment of great beauty, sheltered from the rugged coastline and away from the noise of the capital of the Costa Daurada.
The lighthouse was inaugurated in April 1858 and has a central red tower that still today, daily, illuminates the Gulf of San Jordi on the Costa Daurada. It has a white light powered by olive oil, which can be seen from 14 miles away. The people in charge of its operation were two lighthouse keepers, but as the years went by, the technology was implemented. Next door is another building that was occupied by the engineer and the toreador.
The restoration of the site was carried out in a very respectful way with the natural environment. Thus, you can see native plants such as asparagus, white pine, sea lily, agave or cerrillo, among others. Also, three viewpoints distributed along the route allow you to stop and enjoy the Costa Daurada in all its splendor. One of the most unique is the south viewpoint, from which you can see the mountains of the Llabería range. At this point you can also enjoy the view of the twenty seabirds that frequent this place.
